The West Midlands’ u14 Girls’ squad got their first taste of county football this evening with the visit of Cheshire to Castle Vale. It is a great pity that our very first game had to be in The  English Schools National Inter-County Cup competition, and it was hardly surprising that we struggled a little in the early stages against opponents who had already drawn 1-1 in a Northern Counties League fixture against Greater Manchester.

Our girls could not be faulted for effort, however, and their attitude was fantastic in a game that could have gone either way. They grew into the game as the match progressed, kept battling to the final whistle and went toe to toe with our opponents in a thrilling game of football. Many positives to take from our first game together as a group and there were signs that this team will really progress once they gain more experience of playing at this level.
